Visitors to the Brecon Beacons this summer (2011) have a unique opportunity to take part in a trial of two electric, road legal buggies (b-bugs).
As accommodation providers, we would like to encourage you to offer this novel and fun holiday opportunity to your pre-booking customers.
The trial is being run by a local research company, The Prospectory and is sponsored by The Welsh Assembly Government. The b-bugs, ‘Boris’ and ‘Blodwen’, are effectively “rain-powered” using electricity generated from micro-hydro schemes in the Brecon Beacons.
Visitors who apply to take part in the trial will have a b-bug delivered to their holiday residence by The Prospectory and will have exclusive, free use of the vehicle for a period of between 3 and 5 days. The b-bugs have a top speed of 30 mph and a range of approximately 20 miles between charges. They offer a fun and eco-friendly way to explore the country lanes, visit the shops or a local sites or reach the start of a day’s walk. The b-bugs are not eligible for any off-road use during the trial.
Visitors will need to be able to park the b-bug off-road at their holiday accommodation within extension cable reach of a 13 amp plug. The cable will be provided and each re-charge will cost them approximately 40p of electricity.
Trial participants will be required to take part in 2 online surveys and a short feedback interview at the end of the trial. Their journeys in the b-bug will be automatically logged.
To participate, a visitor must be over 21, a UK resident with a current driving licence and comprehensive car insurance with “Drive Other Car” endorsement. They will be required to provide The Prospectory with photocopies of these documents in order to take part in the trial. The copies will be returned to them at the end of your trial period.
Please refer interested customers to the Visitor Trial Guide which explains to them what is involved in the trial and how to apply to take part. You can download a flyer b-bug Trial Invitation or we will happily provide you some printed flyers if you email or call us.
Interested customers should first check the availability of the b-bugs for their planned holiday dates and then complete our online application form in order to book a provisional trial slot. We require them to provide a holiday residence address in the Brecon Beacons and a contact number for their selected trial dates.
